THIS time of year is the time when the sun is supposed to be shining, and the music festivals kick off. Whether you’re visiting Body and Soul, Longitude or even Castlepalooza the trick is to do it in style.

Flower crowns, wellingtons and carnivals, what a beautiful sighting it all is. But there’s to the festivals than sitting in a field drinking pints of cider and listening to epic performers. We also get to immerse ourselves in outrageous and fab-tastic fashion!

Now, personally, I would stay clear of the basic flower crown hairbands, seriously short hot pants and over-use of body glitter. After all, festival style is not a uniform  – it’s an  opportunity to dress up and be extrovert because anything goes.

Whether you’re camping outdoors for the long haul or day-tripping to your local venue, I’ve searched the sites and stalked the stars for your on-trend looks this summer. You’ll look chicer than Kendal Jenner at Coachella with my top trends and picks, and I guarantee I won’t even have you buying a flower crown…

On the Fringe

Fringes might evoke the freewheeling 70s when male musicians often decorated jackets with fringes, and the ladies paired their flares-with fringed boots, making them the epitome of retro cool. This stud tassel tank paired with black denim shorts and some black booties is the ideal festival ensemble.

The Maxi Dress
Possibly as an antidote to the proliferation of teeny, tiny skirts in the shops, the maxi- dress looks set to be the season’s runaway hit with shoppers too pasty, bow-legged, old or just plain terrified of the micro-mini trend. This red maxi dress from Topshop is a statement itself. A black biker and flat black boots will complete your festival cool-girl vibes.

Flower Power

Florals are always a festival staple, and a key component of the 1970s look. From floral embroidered tops to romantic maxi dresses – the look is the epitome of a warm 70s summer. Florals can be incorporated into any outfit and are perfect for a laid-back boho look.

Team a floral playsuit with ankle boots, oversized sunnies and top the look off with a straw hat to work the floral look.Florals are cute and girly can be a nice alternative to the usual festival style.

These adorable New Look booties are to die for! But hopefully, the weather is nice when you plan on wearing them, so they don’t get destroyed! This Black Quilted Jacket with Floral Embroidery jacket has me reaching for my purse. WOW is all I have to say.

Festival Essentials

Chained down
The bling at festivals is outrageous and by all means, we love it! The festival is the one place where you can go OTT totally with accessorising, whether it’s bold tribal jewellery, trilby hats or body jewellery – the wilder, the better.

Ring My Bell
Huge statement bell sleeves are one of our fashion favourites at the moment. Cute tops with gigantic sleeves to show when it comes to fashion, your not messing around!

Rain or Shine
Take a compact umbrella and pick a bright print or colour. Even if it’s rain redundant, an open distinctive brolly can help walkabout friends and family find you in a packed crowd.

Come Prepared
Bring a cute cardigan or a pashmina to keep you warm all night long. And if the weather forecast is looking gloomy, nab yourself a pair of cheerful printed wellies for a colourful twist

Now you’re packed and ready for some festival fun! Leave your worries at the behind and chances are you will come away having had one of the best times of your life.
