FORGET the Fashion or celebrity gossip, the most sparkling thing on TV right now is Glenda Gilson. The model turned presenter is looking better than ever, so what’s her beauty secret? Glenda Gilson,36, has been in showbiz since she was just three-years-old, so it is safe to say she knows a thing or two about looking camera ready.
And while the leggy brunette is probably best known for her striking, thick and shiny locks, which actually helped land her her new role as TreSemme’s first Irish ambassador, she also has a few makeup tricks up her sleeve. When it comes to cosmetics, it would be fair to say that Glenda knows all the tricks of the trade.
The Xposé presenter has perfected the art of putting on a face for the cameras and during her years in television, she’s discovered more than a few tips and secrets.”I love the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation,” she says. “I remember the first day I put it on, and I took a glimpse of myself on the screen, and I was like: ‘Oh my God, my skin’ – I couldn’t get over it.”
She also says that while highlighter is gorgeous and she loves it – you need to be careful if you are using it for film or camera work.”It’s fine when you are out and about, but when you’re in studio, it can just come across as sweaty.” Glenda’s top tip for mascara landing in unwanted areas of your face is:”Just leave it alone! Because it just dries and you can literally peel it off.”
Glenda, who is nearly three years married to Dublin Businessman Rob McNaughton, has recently welcomed a new addition to her family; a very cute 4-month-old Miniature Schnauzer called Yazz. This little pup will no doubt be great training for the loved up Castleknock pair who have hopes to start a family.
She is open about the fact that she would love to become a mother someday: “Absolutely! Myself and Rob would love to start a family. That’s the way we have always wanted to go in life,” she laughs and says of having a baby alongside new addition Yazz: “But we had better put a few manners on this dog beforehand.”
The Xposé presenter ,and other half Rob, are clearly struck with puppy love and they both regularly upload cute snaps of gorgeous Yazz on Instagram. “We call her the silent assassin, she doesn’t bark, there is no sound out of her, she just comes over and bites the feet off you.”
When the striking model isn’t busy being Castleknock’s most glamorous dog-mom, you will find her on Xposé where she has been a successful presenter for nearly ten years. Glenda landed this role after initially being a stand-in during maternity leave and impressing bosses at TV3 so much they gave her a permanent role.
From Top Model to TV Presenter.
“I’m ten years on Xposé and it’s just fantastic that I’ve lasted this long, and they have kept me this long. I went in on maternity leave and thought I would only be working on the show for five months but I’m still here today.”
“I’ve had a brilliant time over the last decade on the show and I’m constantly travelling with my job; I’ve been to places like Cannes, London and New York. It’s also been great working with the rest of the girls on the team.”
Glenda is still close with former Xposé co-presenters Aisling O’Loughlin and Lisa Cannon who were axed from the show last September in a surprise shake-up of the show. Glenda says they have remained firm friends and she supports their new ventures.
“I’m thrilled for Aisling that it all worked out, she’s such a bright and talented lady.I was also at Lisa’s Summer Fun, when she was launching her new show, so it’s all worked out great. This is a small country and you’ve got to applaud each other because life is too short – especially in this industry.”
With her healthy Approach and natural beauty, Glenda was an obvious choice as the new face of TreSemme. She tells me that she relies on their products to manage her natural curls and to protect against from heat damage on those days she wants to wear it straight.
“I honestly am a true believer in products, and I think you can’t get your hair to do what you want without them. For instance, I have naturally frizzy, curly hair with lots of flyaways and the Keratin Smooth from the TreSemme Range is brilliant and you can also use it when straightening your hair. Also, the hairsprays are long lasting, and they give a really dazzling shine to your hair. It’s not only affordable; but it’s also accessible, you can get it wherever you are”
